Flattering Fall Fashion – What To Wear Now

Reposted from StyleFlattery @ Northshore Mall

This fall has an eclectic mix of shimmering metallics, imaginative furs, and floral brocades, not to mention pops of color, winter whites, mixed prints, fashion-fringe and leather-everything. This got me thinking: where in the world do I begin? There are so many gorgeous items for fall at the Northshore Mall, but it all seems a little overwhelming. This is where my “style is personal” mantra comes in! I absolutely refuse to wear something I don’t like or that does not flatter my shape, even if it’s trendy. Here are some trends that I love for fall, from day to play!

I am a big fan of a “classic” look for day – office, errands, even shopping. For fall, I am loving this front-keyhole “little black dress” with just a hint of ruffle flair in the skirt from Ann Taylor, the sheer and lace “body” top from Bebe, and cheetah-print pumps from Banana Republic. All gorgeous and refreshing!

I have seen a lot of leather for fall this year – skirts, dresses and pants. While I am not a fan of an all-over leather look, I do love hints of leather, as in the piping on this elegant shift dress from Banana Republic. I also love the edginess of fringe as the weather gets cooler. These booties from Nordstrom, and earrings from Forever XXI are the perfect accessories for day or night!

Planning a night out with the girls, boyfriend or hubby? Evening is the best time to wear metallic – it shimmers and shines! I am loving this whole look from Bebe – so fun!

5 Flattering Ways to Wear Leggings

Reposted from StyleFlattery @ Northshore Mall

It’s my favorite time of year…well, almost. I love the fall, and I’m very excited to take out my leggings and mix and match them with the perfect tops. First off, I need to start with an amazing pair of leggings. I just purchased the Instantly Slimming Leggings from White House | Black Market {$60}.

WHBM Leggings 510

The shapewear band at the tummy and inner panel down the leg’s outer seam make these leggings extremely flattering (they are worth the investment because I will wear them again and again). Now that I have my leggings, I’m ready to start pairing. I love the coziness and comfort of the fall: easy-to-wear tops and flats, but I also love dressing up with a leather jacket and a great pair of heels. Here are some ways I will be wearing my favorite new leggings this fall:

5 Flattering Ways to Wear Leggings

1. Tunic top {White House | Black Market} and knee boots:

2. Bright sweater {Banana Republic} and flats:

3. Layers and flats {Loft}:

4. Leather Jacket and heels {Nordstrom}:

5. Button down with French-cuffs with heels or flats {Macy’s}:

Have fun adding pretty accessories like a statement necklace or belt! Enjoy getting ready for the cooler weather, North Shore!

Cape Ann Arts & Fashion

Reposted from StyleFlattery @ Northshore Mall

This week I had the absolute pleasure of getting a personal, guided tour of Cape Ann: specifically the different arts and fashion districts in downtown Gloucester and Rocky Neck. Jacqueline Ganim-DeFalco, owner of Cape Ann Designs: Seaglass Jewelry & Accessories, invited me to visit her arts paradise and was kind enough to show me around.

We started the tour by filling up at the delicious Seaport Grille at the Cruiseport. A gorgeous day to eat outside, we dined alfresco, and Jacqueline (Jackie) filled me in on the upcoming “Celebrate Wearable Arts” benefit on Sunday, September 29, 2013. This event will feature wearable art and fashion from local artists, and will include a fashion show, shopping experience and a chance to chat with the artists over “high-tea.”

After lunch, we went over to the Cape Ann Museum where I had an introduction to the Folly Cove Designers exhibit. The Folly Cove Designers were a group of 45 designer-craftsmen who worked together between 1938 and 1969 producing carefully wrought designs cut into linoleum blocks and printed (primarily) on fabric. The Folly Cove Designers was composed almost entirely of women, most being residents of Cape Ann and a majority having no artistic training prior to becoming involved in the group. The intricate patterns these women developed are incredible. The details were inspired by every-day-life and tell some hysterical stories from gossiping to losing weight!

We then took a walk over to Pop Gallery where I had my first experience with IRO Design. Bold patterns and colorful images are the hallmark of their products. While I did not get to meet designer and owner, Peggy Russell, I got to experience her eclectic taste and eye-for-design first hand.

I also got to meet two wonderful artists and designers: Beth Williams of Beth Williams Contemporary Handmade Glass Beads and Jewelry, and Sigrid Olsen of Sigrid Olsen Art. Both of these women are inspirational, and make spectacular one-of-a-kind works of art. Beth was kind enough to show me some of her incredible glass jewelry, and we just happened to stumble upon Sigrid as she was creating some of her ceramics (a master at work!)

And, since this is a fashion blog afterall, I won’t hesitate to tell you that I wore the perfect outfit for touring the magnificent artsy shore-line. An easy-to-wear, non-fussy look was what I was going for. All of these items can be found at Northshore Mall, of course!

Thank you to my wonderful guide, Jackie Ganim-DeFalco, and to all of the people I met on my journey through a wonderful arts district in Massachusetts. I highly recommend making it a part of your fall plans by partaking in the Cape Ann Open Studio Tour, October 12-14, 2013 or attending the Celebrate Wearable Arts” benefit on Sunday, September 29, 2013.

I bet you didn’t know…

In a past life, I was a nail technician! A few years ago, I was toying with the idea of opening up my own nail spa, and decided to get my nail license. I worked for a lovely salon in Melrose for about a year and met many wonderful co-workers and clients. Although I don’t “do” nails anymore, I was asked to do a review of the Spring 2013 MiniLuxe nail polish collection, and I was happy to oblige!

As a former nail tech, I look for four different qualities in a nail polish line: colors that clients are attracted to, ease-of-application, aesthetic when dry, and longevity/ease-of-removal. To make this easy, I will use a five-point rating scale to judge the last three qualities (five being great, and one being not great).

The MiniLuxe Spring 2013 Collection has five different vibrant colors. I asked some of my girlfriends to be my manicure “guinea pigs,” and each of them was drawn to a different color. The most popular colors were Luxe Hingham (hot pink), Luxe Lolita (purple), and Luxe Lucky (teal). No one chose Luxe Corey or Luxe Jade. In general, this collection has some very attractive colors!

These nail polishes were very easy to work with. They were a pleasure to apply. The brush was easy to control and the polish was not overly thin or thick; it had a good consistency.

I love the finished look of the MiniLuxe polishes when an OPI top coat was applied. Just beware that before applying a top coat, the MiniLuxe polish dries matte and doesn’t look very appealing. As soon as I applied the top coat, though, it turned out beautifully!

My girlfriends and I were extremely pleased with the overall look of the polish, however two to three days after the manicures were done, the polish began to chip. This is fairly normal for all nail polishes I’ve used, so I can’t really fault the polish…we just loved the colors so much we didn’t want them to chip! The removal of the polish was easy; it came right off with regular, non-acetone polish remover.

Overall, I loved these polishes and will continue using them on myself, and recommend them to friends. For more about MiniLuxe visit the website.

Happy manicuring!

Flatter Your Body – How to Find Your Perfect Dress

Reposted from StyleFlattery @ Northshore Mall

Hello dress-lovers,

I can’t think of a better topic to write about than picking the perfect dress for your body type. I wear a dress almost every day at this time of year, and I know I can’t be the only woman who does this! Here is a guide for choosing the most flattering style for you:

A flowy silhouette is especially gorgeous on a statuesque woman. Also, peplums work very well on leggy-ladies!

Cache Tall 510

{Cache at Northshore Mall}

Ann Taylor Tall 510

{Ann Taylor at Northshore Mall}

A styling secret for the pear shape is to wear a dress with a padded bra. This helps balance out bigger hips and thighs. Also, picking a dress with embellishments on the bodice, such as ruffles and florals, will help keep attention on a small torso.

Guess Pear 510

For the woman who does not have a lot of curves, rouching that gathers at the hip creates a more voluptuous look. Also, a halter top, natural-waist-dress with a pattern will create the illusion of curves.

Support is key when it comes to the well-endowed ladies. Think thick straps and plenty of coverage (with less risk of spilling over).

Shades of Grey

Reposted from StyleFlattery @ Northshore Mall

My, what gorgeous weather we are having! The heat wave broke last week and we are finally enjoying beautiful days and nights. This past weekend, Mr. Flattery and I took a trip to Block Island, off the coast of Rhode Island.  This amazing little island offers something for everyone – and we did it all! From relaxing on the beach at Ballards Inn to riding mopeds along the coast, we certainly packed a lot into our one-day-trip.  One thing I find challenging when taking a day trip (especially one involving a ferry) is what to wear for the day. “The forecast says 80 degrees, but will it be cooler on the ocean? What if it rains? Will I need a hat?” When preparing for a day trip, these “grey areas” can certainly throw me for a loop. So, I decided to just go with it and pack a lot of grey!

Armani Exchange at Northshore Mall has so many gorgeous shades of grey this season! I absolutely love walking in there to see all of the feminine dresses and skirts. They also have fabulous customer service. Shout out to Pedro, the store manager at Armani Exchange, Northshore Mall. He was so wonderful to work with while choosing my outfits!

I also stopped by Apricot Lane at Northshore Mall before my journey to Block Island to pick up some fun accessories! Have you visited this adorable boutique yet? If you haven’t it is a MUST! The idea behind this store is “localized boutique shopping.” When I walked in, I no longer felt like I was in a mall at all. Fun dresses, shoes, and accessories fill the store. I can’t believe I hadn’t gone in before, but I sure will be going back. Apricot Lane had the perfect grey accessories for my day trip!

It’s astounding how many cute things I can actually fit into one travel bag for the day; I just can’t help but be prepared for everything! I hope you too are enjoying this gorgeous weather in New England. Stay tuned for my next blog about the perfect dresses to flatter every body type!

Hello everyone!

The heat wave has finally lifted, and it has me thinking a little bit about Fall…just a little. One of the trends that is carrying over into Fall 2013 is DENIM. This fabric never goes out of style, but HOW it is worn comes and goes with each passing season. This Summer and Fall, the sky is the limit with denim. Here are a few ways to wear one of 2013’s hottest trends:

Denim shoes are adorable and can be worn with just about any look. Try pairing these Carina denim flats from Banana Republic with a flirty black skirt or white cropped pants.

Banana Republic Carina Pointed Toe Flat 510

VEST 510

A denim vest can be worn in so many ways. For Summer, slip it on over a maxi dress or sleeveless shirt with shorts and wedges. For Fall, add it over your favorite black chiffon long-sleeve top and sparkly skirt, and pair with pumps.

Express Studded Light Wash Denim Vest 510

I know, it seems too early to talk about layering, but I’m going to mention it anyway because I love to layer – the opportunities are endless when it comes to changing up the look! Layer a denim shirt with a light, belted dress and heels (leave the denim shirt unbuttoned for an easy-to-wear look). Layer a cropped denim jacket with a lighter color denim short, bright top and fabulous statement-necklace. Or, (AGAHST!) layer a light striped sweater over a light-wash denim shirt, leave untucked over a dark wash denim jean, and add a brightly colored flat (the perfect cozy Fall outfit for me).

I am loving denim this year, and the best part about it – EVERYONE CAN WEAR THIS TREND! Find your perfect blend of denim at Northshore Mall in Peabody!

Double-Date-Night – When the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!

Girls just wanna have fun 510

Summer is the perfect time to call up one of your favorite couples and say “lets get together!” There are so many wonderful places to go on the North Shore in the summer: Newburyport, Rockport, Gloucester, but if you’ve read any of my past blogs, you will know that Salem, MA is my favorite. I love everything about this city on the shore – the boats, the restaurants, the shops, and Salem Common. I had a hankering for Victoria’s Station, so I called up my bestie, Toni-ann, and her husband, and asked them to come along with me and Mr. Flattery for a night in Witch City! Our double-dinner-date turned into a walk through the park, a stop at the ultimate Salem coffee shop, Jaho Coffee & Tea, as well as some other great spots along the way. We had a blast rocking our new dresses and accessories from the Northshore Mall…oh and the guys had fun too…I think?!?!

These two amazing dresses are quintessential 2013 summer style. My Armani Exchange kerchief, chiffon dress was so light and perfectly easy to wear. Toni-ann’s jersey Cache dress was a gorgeous blend of summer fun and sophistication. I am certainly making the most of this summer, with visits to all my favorite North Shore towns, beaches and shops! Make sure to drop by Northshore Mall to enjoy INCREDIBLE SAVINGS on summer dresses right now, and pick up a special one for your next date night!

Fall Fashion 2013 Sneak Preview

Reposted from StyleFlattery @ Northshore Mall

Fall Fashion Trends 2013 510px

I know, it seems like yesterday I was writing about dreams of spring and summer, and now I’m already talking about fall! Not to worry, we still have 11 more blissful weeks of summer, HOWEVER, on the “fashion” calendar, fall has already begun! You will notice an increasing amount of fall clothes in the retail stores in the next few weeks as summer-sales really ramp up to make room for the new collections. Here are some colors and trends you can look forward to this fall, all of which you will be able to find at Northshore Mall:

Pantone Fashion Color Report Fall 2013 510px

The PANTONE Fashion Color Report Fall 2013 is a comprehensive overview of designers’ use of color in their upcoming collections. This season, the many moods of fall are expressed in desigers’ collections.

“Just as the leaves change in the autumn, the consumer will enjoy the ability to change their ‘look’ and try a new approach to their wardrobe for brisk days ahead,”

says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, “the fall 2013 palette allows for that versatility and experimentation.” Gorgeous Emerald continues to be a trend, while yellow-toned Linden Green lends a brightness to the fall colors. Pair both with Mykanos Blue for a classic fall look. My favorite color of the season is Vivacious, a deep fuschia that is sure to make a bold and beautiful statement in so many collections.

Here is a shortened list of Glamour Magazine’s most wearable trends for FALL 2013 that will absolutely make an appearance in many of my favorite apparel stores at Northshore Mall, such as Loft, Ann Taylor, Macy’s, Nordstrom, White House | Black Market, Forever XXI, H&M and more:

1. Winter White – Easy to put together, and always classic.
2. Knit Beanie Hats – Adorable and a must-have. Wear it on the way to work or a party (the contrast is part of what makes this look so chic!)
3. Classic Patterns – Leopard, houndstooth, plaid and pin-stripes – ditch the complicated patterns and go for timeless.
4. Over-the-Knee Boots – Love this look, but not sure you can pull it off. Try wearing leather leggings with ankle boots instead!
5. Turtlenecks – Simply gorgeous and stay warm? A winning combination!
6. Slouchy Pants – I’m still not sure about this look, but I’m willing to try it with a pair of heels…anything with heels, right?
7. Statement Coats – I love investing in gorgeous outerwear because I can wear it again and again.
8. Folk-Inspired Pieces – This is a definite escape from classic patterns, but these fabrics are soft and comfortable and will definitely make an appearance in my wardrobe.

While I bask in the sun over the next few weeks still wearing my sundresses and sandals, my excitement will be building over these amazing colors and new styles. I hope you enjoyed my sneak-preview of some upcoming trends that are sure to inspire some blogging!
